Our use of AI

The art in Empire is made using the AI-software Midjourney.
As a tiny company with an even tinier budget, we think that using AI is our best chance at creating a visual universe and inviting our players into it.

At its current stage, Empire could not exist without the use of AI.

That said, we are fully aware of the ethical problems associated with AI, with risks of displacing artists and flattening creativity.
We understand that some players may choose not to support the game because of this, and that’s fair.

It is our goal to transition to working with human artists as soon as we have the budget to do so. If we can commission even 10 pieces, and find artists interested in working on a project where some of the art is still AI, we will do so, continuing to make the transition as able until Empire is 100% human made.

Ultimately, we are proud of the game we’ve been able to create using the tools available, but we also think a transition to human art will make both the company and the game better in the long term.
